We believe that the only thing “bright” about a piano should be its colour. At Fox and Wolfe, the sound of our pianos is our primary concern.
Our pianos sound dark, lush, rich, and moody. Pianos should never sound shrill, harsh or tinny like so many modern uprights.
The journey to this sound begins with the selection process.
It is often said that the best piano voicing is done by the player. To us, this is truth. We only choose pianos to work on that already have something special within them, something we can draw out of them. Our voicing process enables this.
We re-shape our hammers, needle, steam, and use a variety of innovations to restore lustre to the timbre. Every piano wants to sound a certain way. We just have to listen to it.
